Describing Pain Through Lips

  • Twisted and contorted

  • Lip quivering slightly

  • Parted because the character is having trouble breathing

  • Tightly pursed in frustration

  • Clenched, especially if the character likes to tough through it

  • Twisted in a grimace

  • Lips pressed firmly together

  • Lips feeling taut/strained

  • Parted to let out a cry, hiss, or whimper

  • Lips twitching in response to pain

  • Frowning, corners curled down

  • Dry, chapped, cracked lips

  • Biting down on lip, lip pulled between teeth

  • White/pale lips

  • Red, swollen from biting down on lip

  • Wrinkles around the corners from keeping lips tightened

  • Lips moving but no sound (feeling too much pain to sleep)

  • Lips parted because they can’t breathe through their nose

  • Drawn back, revealing teeth (almost like a snarl but due to intense pain or anger stemming from pain)
