November Practice Prompts
November 1 — Write about a character who opens a book in a library and finds a mysterious key.
November 2 — A character wakes up feeling like something is off. Are they…in an alternate reality?
November 3 — The protagonist can’t get a particular smell out of their nostrils. It reminds them of something from their childhood.
November 4 — A character buys a jacket from a thrift store and finds an unopened letter inside a bright blue envelope.
November 5 — Why is the weather changing every hour? Not even the scientists know.
November 6 — A woman receives a letter to a dinner party and accepts it. But why are the guests dressed like creatures? And why do those costumes look realistic?
November 7 — Your protagonist is dancing like no one is watching, but their crush is standing close and staring at them with wide eyes.
November 8 — Is that a bird? No, it’s a plane. No, it’s a balloon. Oh, wait, it’s just the neighborhood superhero. Nothing to see here.
November 9 — A historian stumbles upon a secret that the world has been attempting to figure out. But if they reveal the secret, it could change history itself.
November 10 — Write about a character who cannot lie about anything but they don’t know why.
November 11 — Everyone has superpowers in this world, but your character’s powers are fading. What will they do now?
November 12 — Your character goes on a peaceful walk through the forest to clear their head after a long week.
November 13 — The protagonist lives a normal life until they discover a photograph they don’t recall being part of.
November 14 — A man has never had dreams before, but one night, he has one, and the following day, he has a deja vu moment.
November 15 — Your character has been taken to an alternate dimension where they experience everything they had wished for. Will they stay there or find a way to return to the dimension?
November 16 — The protagonist finds a long-lost twin, except their DNAs don’t match.
November 17 — Your character wakes up one morning and finds a mysterious object with a letter on their desk: ‘This object holds the key to the future. Guard it with your life.’
November 18 — A woman suddenly starts hearing people talking to her, except they aren’t actually talking to her – she can read their minds.
November 19 — Every night at 11:11, time stops, but your character is able to move around.
November 20 — Write about a world where music can manipulate the world.
November 21 — The day starts off great for the protagonist, but each hour keeps getting worse. Everything that can go wrong goes wrong. Everything that doesn’t need to go wrong also goes wrong.
November 22 — Your character sees a meteor crash in the forest behind their house. When they explore, they find the meteor is made entirely of diamonds.
November 23 — Write about a character who inherits a house, but it’s haunted.
November 24 — Your protagonist is stuck in a library during a snowstorm, where all the stories come to life.
November 25 — Write about a character who discovers they are a descendent of royalty, but the members of their true family are missing. No one knows what happened to their kingdom, not even their adoptive parents.
November 26 — A letter arrives from the future warning your protagonist that the next decision they make can alter the future.
November 27 — The town is celebrating an odd festival where everyone has to wear a scary mask to ward off the spirits lurking around the forest nearby.
November 28 — Write a story that begins with someone whispering, “You weren’t supposed to see that.”
November 29 — Your character is strolling through the park when a flash mob breaks into your favorite song, but there’s something unsettling about those people.
November 30 — During the first snowfall of the year, the protagonist walks out of their home to find a strange creature staring back at them.
